Metal Hammer (Greece), Sept. 2007
We will continue by following up on the American heavy metal scene more specifically with Phoenix Reign, which consists of three of our Diaspora members: Chris Pollatos on bass, Vassilios Chrissochos on guitar, and Kostas Psarros on guitar, lead. Their "Destination Unknown" debut album has the theme of Constantinople and its Fall. The band has a female vocalist, who is honestly a very good and capable singer, and is the only newer, noticeable element, since the band is geared around the classic 80's metal sound more than anything else. But don't anybody think that they are mere copycats, Phoenix Reign have the guts to write autonomously and independently, while not straying too far from their idols. In general the album is laden with above average expectations...on the other hand I don't know what path they can take now as female vocals are trendy, but the group is pure, classic metal. They have variety, and they have the tendency for experimentation to differentiate them by using the [traditional Greek instruments] Tzoura and Kanonaki. Watch out for these guys, they should not be passed up.
